For serious trivia hosts
Stumper is the hosting platform for indie pub trivia MCs who treat the night like a craft. Phones as the answer pad. The big screen as the stage. You as the star.
The three surfaces
How a night runs
Open the stage URL on the bar's TV. Scan its pairing QR with your tablet. Welcome message goes up. Doors are open.
Players scan the lobby QR, name their team, become captain. Teammates can scan in view-only. No app, no signup.
One PRIMARY action per beat: open, close, reveal, next. Standings between rounds. Halftime. Wager finale. Archive.
The stage
The room watches together. Readable from fifteen feet, in a dim bar, on a mediocre TV. Reveals are slow — 1.5 to 2.5 seconds, not 0.3. Numeric walkups and wager resolutions are the night's peaks. Phones stay quiet. Atmosphere lives on the big screen.

What's in the box
The Joker
Each team gets one Joker per night to double the points on a round of their choosing. Played pre-round, locked at start, revealed in the standings.
Wager rounds
Captains see the category, lock a wager from their score, then see the question. The wager walkup at reveal is the night's reveal peak.
List mode
Captains submit answers one at a time with live ✓ / ✗ feedback. Borderline submissions queue for one-tap host review. Stage shows running counts only.
Bulk import
Write your pack however you write — Docs, Notion, plain text. Paste into the editor and Stumper parses rounds, questions, choices, and answers.
Preview mode
Step through every round on all three surfaces — cockpit, stage, phone — before doors. Skip-ahead controls included. Nothing gets scored.
Bar-grade resilience
Reconnects without skipping a beat. Server-side answer authority. Captain handoff at 30 seconds. Built for 7:35pm on a Tuesday.
Hosts on Stumper
"I ran trivia off a PowerPoint deck for six years. Stumper is the first tool that actually respects what I'm trying to do — make a Tuesday feel like a show."
"The wager walkup gets a roar every time. Worth the subscription for that single moment."
"Bulk paste from my Doc to a structured game in 90 seconds. Used to take me an hour."
Frequently asked
No. Players scan a QR with their phone camera, land on a web page, name their team, and they're in. The captain submits; teammates can scan in for a view-only screen. No accounts, no installs.
A tablet (or laptop / phone, but tablet is best) for your host control surface, and a TV with a browser — anything that takes HDMI, AirPlay, or Chromecast. The stage is just a URL. We've optimized for mediocre bar TVs and unreliable WiFi.
That's the point. Stumper is bring-your-own-questions. Type them in the editor, or paste a Google Doc and let the importer structure it. We ship a sample 8×8 pack as a tutorial; replace it before you go live.
The show continues from the server side. Your cockpit reconnects and catches up — including any submissions that came in while you were offline. The stage holds the last frame and rejoins on its own. Built for the parking lot.
The Free tier is a permanent trial — one pack, up to eight teams, watermarked stage. Run a full game on it before deciding. Pro unlocks unlimited packs, unlimited teams, bulk import, preview mode, and removes the watermark.
Hobbyist one-off hosts, multi-venue league operators, corporate event services, schools. We're designed for the indie pub trivia MC running a weekly show, and we'd rather be the best tool for that than a generic tool for everyone.
